BIS publishes the Further Education and Skills System Reform Plan

This paper sets out what the government will support financially and the programme of work required to take forward BIS’ reform plans for the FE and skills system for adults aged 19 and over in England. It explains how spending will be prioritised - there will be an increasing focus on those who have not achieved Level 2 English or Maths and in training or re-training the unemployed so they can access the labour market.

TSNLA launches Third Sector Toolkit

The toolkit is designed to support voluntary and community organisations to respond to the literacy, language, communication and numeracy skills needs of their service users, staff and volunteers. The TSNLA (Third Sector National Learning Alliance) and other third sector organisations were involved in road testing this toolkit.

It is directed mainly to those voluntary and community organisations which are not currently mainstream providers of education and training, and whose specialisms are outside the formal education sector.

New Fund for Higher Apprenticeships

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has announced details of a £25m fund that will support up to 10,000 Advanced and Higher Apprenticeships, giving firms in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, information technology and engineering the hi-tech skills they need to grow.

Learning Together 4 - "A Good Event With Good Speakers"

Over 90 delegates attended HTDC's conference, Learning Together 4, at the Focolare Centre in Welwyn Garden City on 12th May.

The audience comprised HTDC's members and associate members and invited guests with an interest in working in partnership with the voluntary sector in Hertfordshire to deliver learning and skills. The event was supported by Hertfordshire Housing Providers and COVER's Engage and Enable project.
